Miles from anywhere, Darracott Place is presided over by irascible Lord Darracott. The recent drowning of his eldest son has done nothing to improve his temper. For now he must send for the unknown offspring of the uncle whom the family are never permitted to mention. Yet none of that beleaguered family are prepared for the arrival of the weaver's brat and heir apparent.

Born in 1902, Georgette Heyer was a highly private writer who never gave interviews or made public appearances. She was married in 1925 and had one son. Of her fifty–seven novels, many are available as Chivers Audiobooks, among them Powder and Patch, The Nonesuch and April Lady. Georgette Heyer died in 1974.

Daniel Philpott has appeared in many theatrical performances including Money From America, The Strike of 1889 (Time Out Critics' Choice) and The Strangest Meeting, as well as several LAMDA productions such as On the Razzle, Anything Goes and The Atheist's Tragedy. His voicework for BBC Radio includes playing the lead in Captain Corelli's Mandolin, They Do It With Mirrors, A Handful of Dust, and he was the runner-up in the BBC Carleton Hobbs Award for Radio Drama.
