For over eighty years, the Association Henri Capitant has endeavored to spread, update, and promote "continental law," or the law of the European continent. In pursuance of these objectives, the Association has decided to create the "Library of the Association Henri Capitant." The many different groups of the Association have been asked to outline and explain the most salient features of their legal system in a series of books structured around a uniform table of contents and within a set limit of pages. Thereby, a reader will be able to know and compare the foundations and fundamental features of each one of these legal systems.

With this purpose in mind, The Legal System of Germany, like the other books in this collection, presents to the reader the main features of the history of its legal system, its sources of law, its constitutional framework, its legal actors, its criminal law, its law of persons, family law, property law, law of contract, law on delictual liability, quasi-contracts, business entities, and labor-employment law.
