CONTROLLED EXPLOSIONS • In the Bloomsbury penthouse he shares with horticulturalist Charlie McCormick, Ben Pentreath has shown why he’s a big noise in interior design. Confident to undermine classical colour verities, he’s painted his corridor coral, kitchen orange and flower room lime green. WHOSE HUE? • A sale at an auction house in North Yorkshire brings together 170 historic sample books from mostly unknown, mainly French, manufacturers alongside the watercolour motifs of 19th-century fabric designer John Barker, perhaps Manchester’s most prolific freelancer.
