When Astarte Weaver finds her boyfriend and best friend in her bed, she returns to County Clare in Ireland, a place that holds happy childhood memories, and buys a ruined cottage in an area that the locals call "the Swan Lake." Trying to rebuild her home—and her life—with the help of local builder Flynn, Astarte gradually becomes part of the tightly-knit local community. But when tragedy hits the small village, Astarte discovers that the only way to heal the sorrow of the present is to come to terms with the events of the past.
