In the novel Catcher in the Rye, the hero Holden tells what he experienced and how he thought when he was expelled out of school and wandered two nights in the city of New York. The book, in a vivid and detailed way, describes the depression, hesitation, loneliness and cynicism in his inner world, thus revealing the psychological character of contradiction of a young man in his adolescence. At the same time, it criticizes the hypocrisy of the adults. Holden is a typical young man with complex and conflicting character.
