Murder, Mystery and Munitions. (Prequel to the Kirsty Campbell Mysteries)

Devil's Porridge is set in 1917 during the First World War. It starts with a bang when the Silvertown Munitions Factory in the east end of London explodes.

East London, January 1917:

"He pulled her into his arms and kissed her long and hard before he strangled her. With a last glance at the fire, he turned and ran for the door to escape the inevitable explosion."

Sixteen-year-old munitionette, Sally, witnesses the saboteur escaping from the explosion at Silvertown Munitions Factory. When their paths cross again, he knows she can identify him, and that he must kill again.

The Silvertown explosion sets off a lethal chain of events and the action moves to Gretna Munitions Factory on the border between England and Scotland. Kirsty Campbell, a policewoman in the newly set up women's police service joins forces with a Belgian refugee working for MI5, and together they set out to protect Sally, a young munitionette who witnessed the aftermath of a murder at Silvertown. They become embroiled with saboteurs, Irish revolutionaries, a German spy, a killer without a conscience, and a plot to assassinate the king. As the body count rises, the stakes are higher than Kirsty could ever have imagined.
