About the Book

Margaret Thatcher: The Autobiography (2013) presents the authentic narrative of the Iron Lady. Encompassing her early life to the political conflicts that shaped her tenure in office, this memoir illuminates the thoughts and principles of one of Britain's most impactful leaders of the twentieth century.

A harsh winter prevails with hurricane-force winds wreaking havoc, toppling trees, blocking roads, and leaving much of the country in darkness. The political atmosphere is equally turbulent. Inflation is rampant, leading the government to attempt wage increase restrictions. In response, trade unions initiate a series of strikes.

Sanitation workers cease operations, causing garbage to accumulate in the streets. Supermarkets witness panic buying due to trucker strikes, and the replenishment of empty shelves remains uncertain. These challenging months are later coined the "Winter of Discontent," marking the nadir of a dismal decade.

Prior to this, in 1973, a global oil crisis triggered soaring fuel prices, resulting in factory closures and over a million workers facing unemployment. Throughout the 1970s, both Conservative and Labour governments strive to address these crises, yet fail to arrest Britain's economic decline.

Following the Winter of Discontent, the Conservatives regain power in the subsequent election. Their leader, Margaret Thatcher, has a strategy to steer Britain toward recovery, leaving the bleak days of the 1970s behind. Britain is on the brink of irreversible change.

But before delving into Margaret Thatcher's prime ministership, let's rewind and explore how she ascended to the leadership of the Conservative Party in the first place.
