A Practical Guide to Assessment for Learning: School Leaders is one book of the Creating Independent Student Learners set. The set includes guides for N–9 teachers and school leaders. The books can be used individually or as a set. This practical, easy-to-read guide, written for school leaders, discusses how to implement change in schools and districts. The many abstract issues of implementing change are grounded within the practical experiences and examples from the authors' work with the Inner City District of Winnipeg School Division and other international school districts. The result is a narrative account that skillfully deals with the questions facing school leaders: Where do we start? What do we need to pay attention to? How will we manage in the long term? The School Leaders guide is organized into three sections: Starting Off, Consolidation and Spread, and Preparing for Sustainability. Each stage begins with an overview and examples, and ends with a summary of the advice and responses to frequently asked questions (FAQs). This book brings clarity and a sense of manageability to the issue of sustainable change in education.
