The Civil Rights Movement produced a revolutionary change in the U. S. legal and cultural system. Through the perseverance of civil rights leaders and sacrifices of the African-American community, for the first time blacks were able to attend the same schools, use the same public facilities, and enjoy the same freedoms as whites. The Civil Rights Movement set the stage for economic and political equality of all Americans, regardless of their race.
