The Duke of Laverdale is anxious to be Master of the Horse. The Duke therefore brings to an end his affaire de coeur with Lady Sybil Mersham, and decides that he will be married is confident that he will then be appointed Master of the Horse.

As he has always avoided debutantes or young women, he asks the Marquis of Coleburn to help him. The Marquis is delighted and tells the Duke that he has the perfect wife for him in his daughter Oleta.

When the Marquis tells her she cannot refuse the Duke, Lady Oleta runs away.

When the Duke arrives to stay with the Marquis, he is horrified to learn that Lady Oleta has ridden off on her own. He tells the Marquis he will follow her himself.

How the Duke finds Oleta in a dangerous situation and how he saves her. How, not knowing who he is, she is impressed by his cleverness, his kindness and his bravery. How when they finally escape from horsethieves he takes her to a place where they both dream the same dream of love, is all told in this exciting book by Barbara Cartland.
