The biggest whitewater kayaking magazine in the world. If a photo speaks a thousand words, then Kayak Session is an encyclopedia. Dubbed the ‘National Geographic’ of whitewater kayaking, we collaborate with some of the best photographers and most acclaimed writers in the outdoor industry. Our photo concept is to show stunning images of kayakers in their element. This photos-first idea is coupled with a creative layout and fresh content, sure to inspire our readers with every issue. Kayak Session is the essential reading for whitewater kayakers worldwide.

THE ALCHEMIST’S BACKYARD • “The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

GALLERY SHOT • WRSI Guil Gorge Chrono / Durance Festival. Château Queyras Gorge, Guil River, France

WORLD WHITE WATER NEWS • This ongoing column is a place to report on the current news, latest descents, expeditions, people and trends in the whitewater world. The world is indeed a big place but the river connects us all. This column attempts to keep us in touch throughout the world paddling community.

BKE 2 BOAT • In the summer of 2020, Olaf Obsommer and Jens Klatt set off to another Bike2Boat trip through the Alps, accompanied by Adrian Mattern and Bren Orton. Traveling 800 kilometers by bicycle while towing your body weight in gear isn’t for everyone. But sometimes, it takes a little suffering to look past the paddling and remind us of the joy to be found in the journey.

BIKE2BOAT 2020

Return to the River GUAYAS COLOMBIA • In October 2017, Jules Domine, Ben Stookesberry, and Lane Jacobs took a chance on the Rio Guayas, one of the largest and most remote watersheds in Colombia. Three days in, with serious concerns of high water and reports of a zona roja in the remote jungle canyons ahead, they hiked out. For the next two years, Lane dreamt every day of returning. When he saw the Guayas on the top of a hit-list for large scale dams, he knew the chance to paddle a wild, free-flowing Guayas was now or never.

Basecamp Cascadia A Summer Exploring the Rivers of the North Cascades • With the Canadian/American border closed for the foreseeable future, expedition paddler Chris Korbulic turned instead to his new backyard, the Cascade Range in Western Washington state. Building on a well-established paddling history and culture of exploration, Chris spent the summer familiarizing himself with the classics and searching for new ones to add to the list.

pete Astler • For some, getting sick at what was poised to be the start of your slalom career would be ruinous. For Pete Astles, it was the start of something bigger. The founder of Peak UK reflects on 30 years of success, sharing a story of passion, dedication, and love. His humble genius took Peak UK from a few items manufactured in a friend’s warehouse to a global brand. More impressive than his eye for innovation is Pete’s continued desire to give back. Pete- and Peak UK- aren’t sitting on success. Instead, they are working to create a new legacy and a new vision for the industry: one where paddlesports has as close to zero environmental impact as possible.

ROBERT EGGLESTON • Up and coming paddlers help keep our sport growing and evolving. In this column, World Class Academy Principal Capo Rettig interviews new, young talent to explore themes of the whitewater scene.

HOW TO SAVE (ACCESS TO) A RIVER PART IV: THE IMPORTANCE OF INVESTING IN ACCESS AND ADVOCACY • In this column, Priscilla explains why the support of businesses and individuals is invaluable when it comes to supporting the efforts of non-profits and the fight for river access worldwide.

A PLACE WE HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING • Exploratory kayaking is much more than paddling class V whitewater. It's a journey from dream to plan to execution. Therein lies the crux: facing...
