A grand jury has charged John Diamond with first degree murder in the shooting death of Trudi Doyle at the Truck Stop Cafe on Highway 33 outside of Nita City. Mr. Diamond and Ms. Doyle had been living together for two months immediately prior to her death. Ms. Doyle was a waitress at the Truck Stop Cafe, and Mr. Diamond was a police officer and had just resigned from the Nita City Police Department. Both Ms. Doyle and Mr. Diamond worked night shifts. Mr. Diamond went to the Truck Stop Cafe to meet Ms. Doyle when she got off work at 6:00 a.m. Mr. Diamond entered the cafe and sat in a booth. Ms. Doyle was sitting in a booth at the other side of the cafe talking with other waitresses. She did not speak to Mr. Diamond, and then at 6:30 a.m., Ms. Doyle got up from the booth and went to the vestibule in front of the cafe. Mr. Diamond followed her and they talked for a few minutes. A shot rang out, followed by a second shot. Ms. Doyle slumped to the floor and died within minutes. Mr. Diamond remained at the scene and was arrested when the police arrived. The eBook versions of this title feature links to Lexis Advance for further legal research options.
